Smoke coming out of the flash! HELP!
Ok, I was sitting beside the window fooling around with the digital camera. Trying out different modes, and so on. And then I take another picture and I see a little smoke coming out from the flash. I feel the flash with my finger and it's hot. I might've covered the flash with my finger accidently a few times =/ Someone please help me, why is this happening, how can I fix it, is it dangerous??? It's a Canon PowerShot A75
Re: Smoke coming out of the flash! HELP!
How much smoke? Do you always see it? Are you sure it's smoke and not condensation? I'm not sure if it''s a problem or not. Your camera's flash does put out a lot of energy, although it happens so quickly you won't feel it. If there's condensation or something on the camera, I could see that it might vaporize. I think that I wouldn't worry about it. If there is a problem, I doubt there's anything you can do about it. As long as the flash works and your camera doesn't catch on fire, I think it's probably ok.

I don't always see it, it's wierd. Like in some situations I see it, in some not. Sometimes there is very little smoke, sometimes tehre is more than little. The flash does work, and I'm sure its smoke, because I can smell something like burning. I called Canon and the guy said it might be shorting something and it could short-circuit my camera :(
Re: Smoke coming out of the flash! HELP!
Well, like I said, the flash does put out a lot of energy. I know when I end up with a flash too close to me face when it pops, I can definitely smell it. But I'm sure that's normal. If it is short-circuiting something I think it would just quit working. Also, what could you do about it if it is? If it's still under warranty, I guess you should send it in. There's nothing you can do about it on your own. Like I said, I think it's probably normal and most people just never notice. I can't be sure, though. If you want to be completely sure, the only thing you can do is send it in and let the maufacturer check it out.
Re: Smoke coming out of the flash! HELP!
the shorting out (burning smell factor) isnt about the energy put out when the camera flash fires its more about the high current that goes into chargeing the capacitor ready for its next fire..
if u are repeatedly fireing flash after flash things might get a little hot.. if its under warranty send it in saying u can smell something burning and see smoke.. they will send u a new one.. if its not.. just keep useing it and hope it keeps working.. just dont sit there playing fireing flash after flash..
i think u do have a fault.. but like a lot of todays products once out of warranty they are just not economic to fix..
