small monopod
I am looking for a monopod that extends to +5ft, but folded up is as small as possible. I haven't found any yet that are under 16" closed....any suggestions? I was hoping to find something smaller...

Hmmm.......IF there are any that fit that spec - and if there are, I haven't seen one - I would expect it would prove somewhat wobbly, due to the extra slider joints required (at least 5, and probably 6).
Each slider joint - A. requires a few inches of tubing overlap, and B. introduces a flex point. Thus there are limits to just how short the tubing can be cut. And, if too much flexibility is introduced, it defeats the purpose of having the Monopod.
I just measured my Davis & Sanford TrailBlazer (basic Black - $24.95 at B&H). Collapses to 22" - comes with a Case. Extends in 4 sections (thus, 3 slider joints) to almost 6 feet. Pretty solid. Makes a good platform for a Maxxum 7 with a 300mm lens. Doubles as a good Walking Stick. Very good value.
