Question Panasonic Lumix / Nikon 8700

Loking into getting one of these - hard to decide. I like the extra Zoom on the Panasonic FZ20, but my concern is that it is Only 5 meg. I wonder if I will regret haing a camera that limits me to 11 X14 prints?

Thus far the reviews have been excellent. But what is Panasonic's reputation in the Camera world?

How does the quality of the lenses compare?

Also open to any other suggestions for similar cameras.
    Thanks

The number of megapixels won't determine how big the print can be made. The more pixels you try to squeeze onto a tiny sensor, the more problems you have with noise, purple fringing, and other factors. It's a constant battle to get everything working well.

I would not think of going beyond 11x14 with any P&S camera. Other opinions may vary. To get the big prints, you need a digital SLR. Most are about 6 MP but blow away the quality of any P&S camera you can buy thanks to the much larger sensor the DSLR uses.

Re: Panasonic Lumix / Nikon 8700

I have had a panasonic lumix fz-1 for the last 12 months and have been VERY happy with it.
Bear in mind that this is the FZ-1 - no manual controls at all, only 2 MP...but that 12x optical zoom (equivalent to 420mm) is just amazing. I have used it for a lot of wildlife shooting, as well as a bit of landscape stuff, and a lot of fun snaps, and would recommend it 100%. The only reason I am selling it - want to move on up to a D-SLR, was finding the lack of manual control very restrictive, and 2MP is pathetic for trying to get any decent sized pics...

After a serious amount of agonizing, I just bought the FZ10, so far no regrets. The long lens is wonderful.

And I finally decided and bought the Nikon 8800. Had it only a day & I think I have the hang of it. Now to just get myself to where I can take some good shots & really give it a workout.

OK, I am considering buying that camera. What do you think of it after having it a couple weeks? I am interested in all the dirty details - the good bad and ugly!
