Canon Powershot: SD700 IS vs. S80

I've been camera shopping lately, looking for a high-end point-and-shoot camera to replace my current old one. I've been able to narrow my search down to two: the SD700 IS and the S80, both from the Canon PowerShot line. Their both relatively new, equally priced, and I'm having a very difficult decision deciding which camera is the "better"of the two, or if any of you had any other suggestions. I really don't want to break into an SLR camera, but I want the best possible thing that can be carried around in my pocket, or relatively close. Thanks .

I'm also thinking about getting the SD700 IS - it's much smaller than the S80

I'd absolutely go with the S80 because it's a much more capable camera that you can grow with. Here's a page that compares the specs of both cameras: http://www.photographyreview.com/Pro...52-&befid=7185

The main reasons I'd go with the S80 are the wider zoom (28mm equivalent) and more manual exposure options. The SD-series cameras all have a "manual" mode, but it actually only offers exposure compensation. I like to have more control and the S80 offers aperture priority, shutter priority, and full manual exposure control. The IS on the SD700 IS would be nice. But I'd rather have more control to ensure that I get the shot I want. Technique can make up for what IS does. It's hard to control exposure when you don't have enough tools, though.

I just ordered an SD700IS .. attracted by size, 4x zoom, IS (very important) and high ISO perormance.

There is a gallery of images here:
