P&S suggestions

Both of my old P&S cameras recently suffured the same fate (dropped by children with the lenses out) and now must be sent to the recycle bin. So, I find myself in the market for a good P&S camera.

I will use the camera to take action shots while cycling, and at the occasional sporting event. My wife will use it for candids of the kids, and general snap shot duty. She does like the cameras that take video clips with sound as she likes to send the movies to family.

I have a budget of under $300.00 for the camera.

Any suggestions?

I shoot with a Panasonic DMC-FZ7 and love it. However, they now have an FZ8, which is an upgrade. These Panasonics have minimal shutter lag and complete user control. I don't think you can go wrong for the money. I believe the FZ8 is priced below $300 now. Here is a link to show you some of my wildlife photos with this camera. Some of them were couple with an Olympus 1.7X conversion lens.
