Lifeguard certification is a training and certification program for individuals who wish to work as a lifeguard. The program is designed to train individuals in the skills and knowledge required to perform lifeguard duties, such as preventing, recognizing, and responding to aquatic emergencies and providing care for individuals needing medical attention.

To become certified, individuals must complete a lifeguard certification course covering water safety, drowning prevention, first aid, CPR, and rescue techniques. The course usually takes about 30 hours to complete and includes classroom and in-water training.
Once an individual has completed the course, they are issued a lifeguard certification card valid for 2 years. To maintain their certification, individuals must complete regular training sessions and pass a recertification exam.

Lifeguard certification is a requirement for most lifeguard positions and is a highly regarded qualification in the aquatics industry. It is recognized by lifeguard agencies, parks and recreation departments, aquatic facilities, and beach and water parks.
