Both cameras appear to very similar in all areas.
If sharing photos is important get the EasyShare, if not toss a coin.
I'm sure he will appreciate and enjoy either one.
    Nikon D7200
    Nikon P7100
    Nikon 16-80/2.8-4 ED VR
    Nikon 55-200 VR II

    Keeping it light and simple.

The L22 and L24 are being sold for roughly the same price.
I'd suggest getting the newer L24 over the older L22.

How old is your grandson? If you expect that delicate equipment might be a hazard with him, look at the Fuji XP10 - a very rugged and affordable camera. It has shock resistent casing and its water proof (to like, 6 or 10 feet). Amazon and ebay has those going for about $100, retail stores around $120.

If thats out of the budget, maybe pick up an Canon powershot A540, those are going on ebay about $50 and would provide a better experience.
