I've shot wakeboarding before and I used the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L. It was perfect. Your post says "the most $$$$." I'm guessing that's a mistake. How much do you have to spend? The Here are three lenses for you to look at:

    Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS[
    Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L
    Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

The 70-200 f/2.8L IS is one of the best lenses ever, and it will cost you an arm and a leg. But it's a great investment if you plan to shoot sports seriously. If that's the case then it's pretty much the most important investment you can make - way more important than your camera. I've gone through about 8 Canon SLRs over the years. But I've had the same 70-200mm lens the whole time.

i have about 500 to spend.I like this one http://www.photographyreview.com/cat...3_3128crx.aspx . and i think my best bet will be to get it from ebay. or a used one from a local camera store. ive been looking at this one http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=11922 so i think ill get the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM or the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

    70-200L vs 70-300
It might be tempting to go for the longer reach of the 70-300mm lens. But that's basically an inexpensive consumer lens. Canon's L lenses are their best stuff. My dad actually owns the 70-200 f/4L and I've borrowed it before. I don't think there's any optical compromise compared to my f/2.8 lens. In fact, I've thought of selling mine and buying the f/4 version because it's so much smaller and lighter. So I think buying a used 70-200mm f/4L is a great idea. Lots of photographers will be wanting to upgrade to the f/2.8 or the image stabilized version of that lens, so used lenses should be obtainable. Further, the Canon L lenses are very reliable. I bought mine used over 10 years ago and it's still going strong.

The 70-200 f/4L. That's a real pro lens and most sports pros' first serious lens investment is a 70-200mm lens. The 70-300mm offers more reach. But the image quality and auto focus won't be as good as the 70-200. The 70-200 f/4L is about as good a lens as you can get as far as image quality and auto focus go.

If you're serious about shooting wakeboarding, I'd get the lens before the other stuff. A flash is nice, but it's not gonna help that much with wakeboard photos.
