need advice on digital cameras G9, Luminix?
I currently have Sony and Olympus point and shoot cameras and I am looking to upgrading - more megapixels, more zoom, quicker response - I often enlarge my pictures upwards of 13 x 17 - any advice on which camera to choose. I've read a lot about the Canon's cameras but am concerned that the G9 doesn't take AA's etc. Would welcome

I have the G9 and find the IQ excellent along with many great features. I don't have a problem with the battery - it lasts a long time. There is a thread in the Canon forum that began as a question about the Canon S5 - but within the first few posts the G9 came up and now there is more info about the G9. Lots of good input, comments and info. I think you would glean a lot of information from it - here is the link:

Here is a link to some shots taken with the G9 - straight out of camera with no post processing

Most camera batteries now are lithium. I have ran out my camera battery in a day but then again those days the raw photo count was in the thousands (no flash), and I had more than four gig photos. You can purchase a car charger if you are worried about the batteries, but I always carry a spare charged battery. If you going to use flash, allot purchase a good flash until.

I searched a lot online, and found the lowest price is only $432

I think it is a solid enthusiast digital camera for those who want something compact to complement a dSLR.

The Canon G9 review was just posted on DP Review yesterday. Read the details. Its a nice camera but has some major faults. It got a "Highly Recommended (just barely)" rating. Unless you are a big fan of the G-series cameras and are willing to shoot in RAW and do the work, look around for something else.

As others have stated, AAs are not the best choice.
