Re: Narrowed Cameras Down , which one do you think?
I've never used a Canon, but I do like my Panasonic DMC-FZ7. The only difference I can see between the FZ7 and FZ8 is 1 extra mp and the FZ8 will shoot in raw. I've taken some very nice photos with mine and noise is very minimal at ISO 200. I actually just had a photo of a loon chosen as a featured photo, that was shot with this camera. One nice thing about the Panasonics is, they come with a highly regarded Leica lens.
Good luck with whatever you get.

Haidden, why don't you tell us more about why you're interested in those two cameras? Camera choice has some very personal considerations. So I need to know more about what you plan to shoot, what you've owned before, and what features you're interested in. I like both Panasonic and Canon digital cameras, although I haven't had the opportunity to use either of these models. The main difference between the two cameras is that the the Panasonic has a very long optical zoom and the Canon has a very good 10-megapixel sensor. I also believe the Canon will have better image quality than the Panasonic. So which feature is more important to you - image quality and resolution or zoom reach?
Re: Narrowed Cameras Down , which one do you think?
I just spent 3 days going through the same process - even the same 2 cameras - trying to decide. As John said, it's a personal/subjective decision. I like the longer zoom, but for me personally, the choice is always for the image quality. From what I've seen the G7 seems to be a bit better in that department - so I'm picking one up this morning. I've always been happy with Canon, although I have a DMC FZ3 that I used as a 2nd camera that surprised with with good quality images.
I'm not sure that helps, but as John suggested, give us an idea of what you're looking for.

I have not used the DMC but have seen results from it and they are very good.... I DO own the G7 though and it goes with me everywhere... its a very sturdy small P&S that has VERY good image quality... I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller than DSLR camera...

It's good to read your thoughts about the G7. I ordered one and it will be here tomorrow. I needed a smaller camera due to back problems from an accident a few years ago. When I use the XTi along with a heavy lens it affects my back/neck and takes away the fun of it all. So I decided to get a P&S to go along with the XTi. I'm not giving up the XTi - NEVER! But I do need to stay away from carrying around the heavy lenses for the most part.
I'm looking forward to using this camera - have read excellent things about it. B&H also has almost 50 reviews from G7 owners on their website. That really helped me decide - many of the reviews were done by pros.
heres a shot I wanted to not be so noticable while shooting since its on a dirtroad next to a railyard that pumps fuel.. sometimes the big L lenses dont come in handy...LOL: http://www.northeastfoto.com/gallery..._06_16-R01.jpg

Thanks for posting the shots.....they're both great. I love the last one!
I'm anxious to get out & use the G7 (coming today), but still a bit afraid of "going back" to the P&S. I have to keep telling myself, I'm keeping the XTi - it's my paint brush & canvas in my world of art.....nothing beats the images I've gotten from this camera.
