Microdrive or Compact Flash or ......?????

Just got a D100 and not sure what type of memory will work best. I hear that microdrives are fragile and slow. I will use the camera in the studio and outside for both casual and paying jobs. Please help!

Microdrives are fragile and they can be slower than flash memory. And since they're a mechanical device, they'll drain your batteries faster. That said, I've been using a 1 Gig Microdrive for about 2 years and haven't had any trouble. And I do most of my shooting outdoors, in pretty rough environments. I'm not worried about them anymore. You just don't want to drop it, and you don't want to pinch it.

On the other hand, the cost of flash memory keeps coming down. I doubt I'll buy any more Microdrives when I can get a high-speed 1 Gig flash memory card for a couple of hundred dollars.

thanks John, that confirms what I have been hearing. You are right about the price too! BTW, I couldn't believe how easy the D100 was to use the 1st time. I can tell I am going to like it very much!

Digital SLRs are great, if you can afford them. You can't beat the instant feedback. If you pay attention to what you're shooting they'll help make you a better photographer.

Make sure to post a review for your camera after you've had it long enough to get to know it well!
