Looking for a compact camera.
I'm going to Italy in August so I'd like to get a good camera to take pictures of the sites there. It should be able to fit in my pocket and take good outdoor shots as well as indoor low light shots. I looked at reviews and thought that Canon PowerShot SD800 IS and the Sony Cybershot N2 were pretty good. I was also told that the Fuji F30 was the best low light camera, but is it good for other shooting conditions too? These were the ones I was looking at and I'd like other people's opinions on them as well as recommendations for other cameras.
Re: Looking for a compact camera.
The SD800 is a great camera for travel... I actually have taken mine on several different trips and it performs incredibly well in every condition I've taken it in. If you aren't going until August, you might want to hold out until the Canon SD850is comes out. That camera looks like it is going to be incredible.
As far as other brands... I've really been unimpressed with the Nikon point and shoot line as of late. But Olympus has made a resurgance with their compact cameras (the FE-240 is probably their best feature-wise). Another interesting camera is the Olympus Stylus 770SW... it pretty much ensures that you will be prepared for every situation. It is waterproof up to 33 ft, it is crush-proof up to 200lbs., it is shock-proof up to 5ft, and it is freeze-proof down to 0 degrees F.
Re: Looking for a compact camera.
So either the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS, the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS, and I'm also considering the Canon PowerShot A640. It's not as compact as the SD800 or 850, but if the picture quality is much better, especially in low light, then I might get it instead. It takes AA batteries, so that's a plus. Anyone know how the A640 compares to the other two?
Re: Looking for a compact camera.
If you're wanting to shoot in low light, I think you would favor something with Image Stabilization (IS).
Re: Looking for a compact camera.
How does the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 compare to the SD800? It seems like a lot of the same except for a 10x optical zoom.
