I would want something a little longer. A 28-135 IS would be great.

When I travel I seldom take anything other than my 17-85. My 50mm F1.8 comes in handy in low light though and it's very small so easily portable. I've often taken longer lenses when traveling but gave it up. The weight was never worth the little I used them so they always just ended up sitting in the hotel room.

Take the one you will use. Leave everything else behind.

I know that sounds like a smart-aleck comment, but think about it for a moment.

If I can only take one lens with my EOS 10D, I take the 28-135mm IS. Optics are very good and the range is great. If I can only have two, I take the 28-135mm IS and the 15mm Fisheye.
