    Lenses for food photography

My wife has made a few beautiful dishes for my daughters birthday. I have tried to take a few amazing pictures but they didn't turned out as well as the pictures taken by professional food photographers working for food magazines...Surprise, surprise!!!

My question: what kind of lenses do food photographers use? I have an idea about lighting setups.
I guess 45mm tilt shift, 90mm tilt shift...WHAT else? Do they use medium format cameras?

The lens is not the issue, msot of what they do could be done with a kit lens. The key is a very carefully set up studio, with light diffused enough to not cause reflection.

Yeah, the light is a big part of it, but tilt-shift lenses will make a big difference in the ability to control and place where the focus is. This is a problem with any kind of close-up photography. That is, if increased depth-of-field is what wedding photographer is looking for. Shallow depth-of-field with out-of-focus foreground is easy

Can you show us some examples of what you shot, wedding photographer? You said your photos didn't come out as you'd hoped. But you didn't really say what you didn't like about them. Samples always make for better evaluation.
