    Digital Camera of Camcorder?

Hey guys, need a little help

Right i had a Panasonic TZ5 just after it was released. I took my TZ5 recently (May 09) to Orange County with me on my holiday and i went to a music concert. Majority of the pictures/videos from the rest of the trip came out fine. The concert pictures were dark, even with the flash turned on. They actually came out worse and more dark with the flash on.
The videos were just poor really, i was quite closer to the stage and i literally cant make out any words the artists said. Its just one bit fuzz all the way through the singing/sounds. I've looked on youtube for videos from this concert and people much closer to the stage got great videos with really good quality and sound.

I did try playing with the settings but nothing really helped ruined what would of been a brilliant memory really. Im not heading back to California in December and need a decent digital camera or video camera that i can carry around.

I'd like a good camera for the following:
*Being close to a stage and getting good focus and sound even with the speakers blasting out sound, i want to be able to make out whats going on. Not just a fuzz for 5mins

*Good flash and reasonable zoom - 10x opitcal+
*Decent video, ideally 1080p but 720p is good too as long as the videos dont skip frames.
*Nice design and build quality, id like to hold it in one hand so small and portable would be good. Not one of those old camcorders with tape
*Good night recording/pictures, i went to vegas with the TZ5 and got poor shots of the skyline . Not many pix were in focus and the videos took a while to focus.
++ i like my night shots, such as taking images of stars and stuff like that from either the ground or through a plane window. Anything like this would be good. The TZ5 sort of did this but it took 15-30seconds to adjust and the pictures just came out blurry.

Im looking at about a £400 max budget

Any help would be great, thanks.
P.s., Ive attached some pix below to show what i mean with image quality.
