Help! I Need Suggestions for a Birthday Gift for Tomorow!

Hi, I would like to purchase a gift for my mother in law's birthday that would have to do with her digital camera. I do not know anything about digital cameras, but I do know that when she takes her pictures with her digital camera, she saves them on her computer like this she changes the settings of her pictures with her digital camera programs, she then prints them with her normal computer printer. I also know that some photo printers could print the photos without the use of a computer, which I find would be quicker and easier for her. However, are their some photo printers that could change the settings of a photo like she does with her computer at a reasonable price, and is a photo printer worth getting for her case? If you do not believe so, are their any other gifts which could be appreciated? She has a Sony Cyber Shot Still digital camera, 7.2 mp with 3x optimal zoom.

    Thank You.

Are you sure your gift idea really offers her anything she doesn't already have? It sounds like she's doing ok.

A lot of newer printers do have some built in editing options, and most have built-in card readers now, too. Do you know what size she likes to print? And how much are you looking to spend? For $100 you can get a great 8x10 photo printer from Canon, Epson, or HP. And it would be best to stick with those manufacturers, anyway. However, she'll still need to save her photos to the computer if she wants to keep track of them. And she won't have as many editing options on the printer as she would with the computer and photoi editing software. On the other hand, she can still edit on the computer and print from the computer if she wants to.

But does a photo printer have better quality than a computer printer?

Yes, most real photo printers are designed to print photos some better than others. Also good quality printer photo paper is required as it holds the ink differently.

I have no first hand knowledge on which are better though.

I do agree if she has a 7mpix camera and a computer already, the printer seems to be the logical upgrade. That a a box of good paper.

    Computer Printer?

Ahhhh - good question. I assumed the "computer" printer was a photo printer. But it may not be. The word "photo" in Photo Printer implies that a printer is designed for making photo-quality prints and printing on photo-quality paper. The reality is, most current printers can print on photo-quality paper and actually print photos very well. In fact, a current inkjet that isn't considered a photo printer can probably print photos better than a "photo" printer from 6 years ago.

So what printer does she have? That would help.
