I made my own additional extention tube.
for fooling purposes only. I wanted to see how much closer I could get with another extention tube, but I dont have another, so I improvised.
I took a body cap and lens dust cover, and put a gap in between, with a cyanoacryllic glue doused piece of fabric as the gap. it now feels like concrete. I've tried to pull the whole unit apart, no luck, its nasty glue. need a special chemical debonder to remove.
so yea. with all of my tubes on, i get a minimum focus distance of about 6.5ft on my 400mm L glass. 11ft without any tubes. When i add this gizmo, i get about 4.8ft focus distance, and you can really really see details. lol..
heres a sample pic.

I think it will be useful for shots where i need to get suuuper close, but otherwise its a pointless extention.
Re: I made my own additional extention tube.
Hey, the result is pretty darn good!
Great putting an idea into motion. Some of the best stuff has been invented by tinkerers
Almost cries out for a contest to see who can make the most original 'tube.
Thanks for sharing.
Re: I made my own additional extention tube.
;-) thanks. although i dont think there will be many other ideas for a tube, all it is is a tube, lol..
I think i'm going to buy debonder, and extend it to the same length as all of my other tubes added together, so I can get like a 1ft focal distance.
yay for 400mm macro lenses!!! :-D
and I have my own way of setting aperature. you put the lens on, set to the aperature you want, press the DOF preview button, and while holding that, remove the lens. the aperature stays locked, so you can have an f/9.0 without any electrical contact. and also, focus is restricted to manual, but i dont care. :-)
