    how to print photos?
    Hello everyone

I bought a canon powershot A510 less then a year ago. I like to edit my pictures using photoshop CS2 but when I transfer my edited pictures to my camera and go to Wal Mart to print them it dose not show all the picture. Its like it makes them bigger the the original picture. Anyone knows how to fix this problem.

    Thanks

If I were to guess, based on what you're saying, it's probably due to the photo's being cropped to fit the size you are printing. Chances are your camera shoots at 4:3's ratio (4 units wide x 3 units tall) images, so if you are printing 4x6's (3:2 ratio) some will have to be cropped off the top and/or bottom to fit the image. Since you are using PS, crop your images in PS to the size you want to print to be sure you get what you want. That goes for any size... Some consumer online printer (shutterfly.com and, uh, forget the other one we use at the moment, oh snapfish.com) have "digital" print size, that comes prints some weird size like 5.333" x 4" prints (4:3 ratio)...

I forgot to tell you all that whenever I upload my edited pictures to my camera it tells me what resolution I want to make my image too. For example, this are my options that it gives me 640x480, 1024x768, and two more options that I cant remember. Are all the digital cameras like this or can you just drag the edited picture in the memory stick without resizing the image.

    thanks

Those lower resolutions are mainly suited for e-mail. You should normally print off of the highest resolution your camera has.

What about if I have a picture that is 1024x768 do I have to put that size or can I put it at the max resolution. Also, I print my pictures 4x6 so I dont know if I need to put the 640x480. I

What kind of camera are you shooting with?

    1024 x 768 doesn't make for a very good 4 x 6 imo...

that only gives you 170dpi... might look ok, I guess.... I've never tried it.

    Re: how to print photos?
I usually do prints 8x10 and smaller at 300dpi. If your image is already 1024x768 then you can add pixels but that's not the same thing as adding detail. You can't add to what's not there... :)

In Photoshop, go to Image > Image Size and see how big the image is in pixels. Like I said, I do small prints at 300dpi so you could use the crop tool set for 1800 pixels x 1200 pixels at 300dpi, then you've done two things in one step. Of course this will only work well if your file is larger than 1800x1200.
