High Resolution Imaging at a Distance

Hello,

I would like to capture high-resolution images from a distance of 10-15 feet (or further if possible). My target size is variable and can be between the size of a baseball and a basketball. I want a resolution of about 640x480 pixels for every 2 inch x 2 inch square.

I am also interested in captuing an image stream or uncompressed video of this object from the same distance.

I am requesting information about recommended camera distances, zoom lenses, previous work, etc. Any advice anyone can give is appreciated.
