    Why not Micro SD?

Just wondering why no new digital cameras (maybe I'm just unaware) use micro sd cards instead of the mini sd that they all use. The micro sd's are so much smaller, you'd think they would want to make a switch, especially for the pocket cams.

    Re: Why not Micro SD?

Personally, I'd be terrified of losing those mini cards. I actually prefer CompactFlash because they're bigger. I don't think they're too big. I have a Nokia mobile phone right now with a 2GB micro DS card in it. That thing is so small it really scares me. If you dropped it on the floor, it might disappear in the carpet.

But I've been waiting to see micro SD cards in cameras. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. I don't think it's a good idea. But I can absolutely see camera companies doing it for marketing reasons.

I agree with Photo-John, The smaller the card the flimser it is going to be and the more prone to breaking. That is why Compact Flash cards have continued to be the standard in DSLR's. The most rugged of the removable memory cards and very easy to get to, get out and replace in a hurry.

Interesting. I rarely even remove my card, I always plug the camera into the computer via cable. Nor do I ever really fill up the card since I always transfer everything onto the computer, I don't save much on the card.

I guess there wouldn't be too much point for Micro SD in larger cameras, but I think it would be great for someone to make a super slim pocket point and shoot w/ Micro SD.

If I shoot an event, I can easily fill two or three cards before I have a chance to get back to the car and dump them to the laptop. I have to take them out of the camera and store them while I'm in the field. Those MicroSD cards are so small that if I dropped one in the grass, I'd never be able to find it.

    plus there's price ;)

a 1gb SD card can be had for $5 after rebates and a 1gb microsd runs $10 after rebates!

(dunno what the street prices are, I hate paying MSRP for anything, but I assume Microsd is expensive)
