hi all i am new here just few a questions

hi i just wondering if you could tell me if this camera i have is a SLR digital camera or a compact digital camera

as i am doing a course digital photography and i have both elses cameras

No, the 9600 is marketed as 'slr type' as it has the manual zoom and focus rings, as well as the typical grip dimensions, and full manual control and modes. It, however, uses no optical mirror, and has a 1/8th" (if I recall correctly) sensor, it is not by definition an DSLR. I have seen these cameras on EBay listed AS DSLR, but its just not true.

It is a pretty kickass camera though.

FYI With Canon/Fuji, anything thats Powershot/Finepix is a point and shoot. Fujis DSLR line are simply dubbed 'pro' and Canons DSLR line are called 'EOS'.
