Film vs.digital final results and so on...
  Hi:
I'm a new commer on this forum but I believe you could help me.
I eard from a professional photographer that the translation in pixels of the whole information include on a 35mm photogram/negative is near 20.000.000 pixels.
I've try several kind of sources to confirm(or not...)this issue. Is there anybody who could give me a hand?
Best regards

Welcome to the forum Zly. I just finished a photo class in December and our instructor said pretty much the same thing. She told us that a 35mm negative captures as much information as an 18 megapixel digital camera would. I didn't see any research stating that, just took the instructors word for it.
Re: Film vs.digital final results and so on...
i think this is out-dated theory based on what resolution a film slide had to be scanned at to give results similar to 35mm film..
in truth i think its erroneous misleading nonsense and teachers and those quoting it ought to stop living in the past..
it has been said and accepted that a modern digital camera does not need as many pixels as the theory suggests to produce acceptable results.. its more down to what the current digital technology does with its pixels than how many it has..
just my view on the subject.. but who am i to contradict people who teach for a living.. he he

This is nonsense. A 2400 dpi scanner already scans down to grain level. There is no more information than that. In the beginning of digital, people (including myself) made such predictions about film and digital. Now we know that there is no pixel-film equivalent at all, they are totally different media. All DSLRs and most consumer P&S now do better than 35mm film. A few top-of-the-line match medium format film. Large format film is still safe from the onslaught of digital - for now.
