Which is the best for what I need?

Hi all. Let me begin by saying I am an absolute green horn when it comes to camera's. I just recently started playing with photography when I had my website built. I sell heirloom outfits for dolls and babies so it is of the utmost importance that my handwork details be shown. I am playing with different lenses. I have a Canon Digital Rebel (EOS). I now use an 18-55mm lens and also a 35-80mm lens. So far I'm not getting the photos I desire. I need something that can take a good closeup and full shot of my baby or doll at the same time. What I need to know is what lens would be best and your recommendations. I am looking at the Canon 18-200mm or a Tamron AF18-270mm lens. What do you experienced photographers recommend? I'd like to hear from y'all before I make a purchase.

Before you start spending money on lenses, can you share some photos you're already taken, and we can see what the problems are?
Maybe we can suggest some improvements in using what you've got, because the lenses you have should be enough for everything except very close-up images.

sounds like you need a macro lens if you want the close details. Post what exactly you've taken pics of so we know what you are talking about.

To get in close to your subjects you need a macro lens. For a Canon Rebel you should check out the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM or the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM Macro Lens. Both are good lenses that will give you the results you are looking for. If you have a bigger budget you could go for the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L USM Lens which is considered to be a professional lens but will run you around $1300 US. The other two lenses I mentioned are quite a bit cheaper. I think around $500-$600 US.

My recommendation is to get a good light box kit. These are designed to properly light your items with diffused light to make them "pop" in the image but without hot spots. Hammacher Schlemmer has a really good one for about $80 that comes with lights and background box. It'll take your pictures to the next level to be sure.
