Newbie to the photo world

Hello all,

I am looking to get into Photography, I want to learn more and take more pictures. I have Nikon CoolPIx L10 and a cannon Power Shot S3IS. I have several questions regarding taking the best pictures in different lighting and the size of the pictures.

1.I am out side bright sunny day, What type of setting should I use? same goes with like a cloudy, dust (early morning), during the evening hours when the sun is going down.

2. Does picture size matter on how many mega pixel you have on your camera?

It's really hard to give you an exact answer to #1. I could say use the sunny f/16 rule(aperture on f/16 shutter speed on film speed)...but your camera doesn't stop down to f/16. And in all reality there is no pat answer to this question. So I would suggest doing some reading instead. Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is an excellent book on the basics of photography, I suggest picking a copy up.
