Smile definitive answer on lens hood

    hi everybody

people tell me lens hoods block light from large angles, or stray light. but i have no clue what does this mean

so could somebody make for me a photo where you definitely need a lens hood, and do not use it? and then, also take a second photo, where you use this lens hood

then i can compare and learn what a lens hood does, definitively

    thank you

Re: definitive answer on lens hood

I don't have any sample pictures, but maybe this witll help. If you have the sun off to the side when you take a picture, some of the rays of the sun may hit the front glass of your lens. The rays will then bounce around in your lens causing a light flare on your picture. The lens hood just acts as a shade. Think of it like a baseball cap for your lens - as a baseball cap keeps the sun out of your eyes, so the hood keeps the sun off your lens. Simple as that.
