    Canon PowerShot SD630 Problem

Hi, my name is Peter. Last week I had purchased the great camera SD630 from FutureShop in Canada. The camera works perfectly fine and suits all my needs plus more, but... there is one problem with it, when I'm in any mode with the camera unmuted but with all the volume down, it makes a strange whooshing sound from the small speaker on the top. It's not a mechanical sound - it's an electronic static noise.

When I press any of the buttons, left, right, up, down, func/set ect. I can hear the sound. I can hear this sound from about 1 foot away and sometimes it gets louder and I can hear it even further.

I took it back and exchanged it once and the new one had the exact same issue. I emailed and also called Canon and they had no idea what I was talking about.

My question is if this camera is supposed to make this sound. Does anyone else notice it?

I just checked out someone's SD800 IS and I think I know what's going on. The sound you're hearing is the camera's auto focus adjusting, not something coming from the speaker. I might be wrong, but that's the only sound I can hear when the sounds are all turned down. It's even there when I mute the camera. It sort of sounds like static. But if you think about the little tiny auto focus motor, it could be heard as static.

Let me know if that explains it for you.

No, its not. It happens in all modes anyways.
