Positive Film "mode"

Just curious as to what everybody else uses this mode for? I think I read it is for accentuating the red's, blue's and green's in the picture. My Powershot SD700 has Positive Film mode, but it also has "Vivid" colors mode, which seems to do the same thing.

Is there another obvious difference here I am missing?

It's called My Colors. Read Page 60 of your manual.

Do a test! Shoot the same subject in both settings and then compare on your computer.

I don't know how deep your photo experience is. But just in case you don't know, "positive" film is slide film, which has more contrast and saturation than print film. So the Positive Film mode should replicate that look. My guess is "Vivid" is even more saturated and maybe even almost surreal.

Ok Test1 is a normal shot, no special settings. Second pic is "Vivid" colors, third pic is"Positive Film" colors. None of these have been touched up or anything.
I started to write a review and and it sounds really "simple" and lame I will try to make it so it's a bit more useful for somebody looking to shop for a camera! (I am not the best with camera lingo or knowledge obviously)

In comparing the last two images (vivid & positive modes) I find the difference is in the blues. They are globally darker, with more red and more blue (ie. a "deeper" blue).
It's most noticable in the sky, water, and haze in the hills in the background.

I congratulate you on the getting the two frames precisely the same. It makes comparing the two images much easier.

I have no comment on what positive mode is or does, only on the differences in the two photos.

actually its the same picture, just adjusted/saved 3 times on the camera itself. Im not that good ;)
