Canon G5 compatable with Panther os x?
Hi I hope someone can help me. I'm considering buying a canon G5 to supplement my film cameras, but as my mac runs on panther 10.3, I'm worried that it may not work. Does anyone know if that is the case as I find it hard to believe that Canon don't update the stuff that makes it work (sorry, I'm very non-technical - that's why I have a mac!). If the G5 runs on os 10.2, surely it must run on 10.3 mustn't it? Any clarification is much appreciated. Thanks

Cameras aren't "compatible" with computers, they mac will just see t as a compact flash drive. Any software you use that is OS X native should work as well.

Ooooops! thanks Sebastian! Did say I was not very tech-minded. Glad I can go and get one and not worry. Again thank you for your speedy reply. Matt

    Excellent choice BTW
I purchased the G3 as my first digital camera and I absolutely love it. Lots of features including the option to use manually as well as auto......flexible LCD screen - also the aperture of 2.0 vs 2.8 on most other digital point & shoots is worth getting it for alone.

Your G5 is a 5mp (G3 is 4) and it has a few more features than the G3 - but very similar.

I now have the Digital Rebel and the G3 as a 2nd carry around camera. :)

The software that came along with my Canon works fine with Panther.

    No problem
I have the Canon G5, and I post process my images on two Macs with Panther installed. I've experienced no problems of any kind.

However, please note that I have not used any of the software that came with my G5 -- I use instead Photoshop CS and its improved browsing system to do all of my picture editing. And I move all of my images into my computers using card readers -- I have never plugged my G5 into my computers.

But if you wish to do use Canon's browsing software, and transfer pictures directly from the camera, I would think that Panther should allow you to do this without any problems.

    Good luck,

    Phil
