Canon Digicam Lenses, is Cheap bad?
I'm looking at something like this kit
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...510717009&rd=1

But it's made by Merkury optiks or something like that and i've never heard of them.

    and this kit:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...509741829&rd=1
    "Quality japanise manufactured lenses"

Should I bite the bullet and go all out brand name canon lenses?

Telephoto isnt essential since I already have 4x optical zoom, but being 40 miles from SF, I have wanted a wide angle lens numerous times, but dont like waiting for the processing time of 35mm.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. If its all snap shots and you don't care so much about the image quality then just about anything would do, but the old axium applies here my friend; You get what you pay for.

So if i pay twice as much for a canon lens over one of these on ebay, am I paying for higher quality or am I paying for a name?

Well, both really. The canon lens is made by canon, therefore it has a name that you can trust, as you have known it for years and it has proven itself time an again.

On the other hand, the canon lens is made by canon, therefore it utilizes quality canon optics, some would argue the best on the market. And you can't dispute the fact that an attachment made by a particular company for its own particular product is most likely going to out preform any other attachment made by a third party manufacturer.

So as I said, you get what you pay for. Have you tried looking up reviews for these other lenses?

k, I was able to find a review for one of them, turns out the "Titanium blah blah" ones are Sakar :S

    ThankyouNo.

So yeah, I'm currently in the market for a DECENT wide angle lens for my A510, I can get a tube adaptor from newegg for $15 or so. Other than that, I'm lost. No idea where to shop, Shutterbug B&M maybe, but I dont wanna pay an arm and a leg for a lens. Any Pointers?

Dell has the real thing for about $75, then I'll have to get the tube adapter. Looks like I'll be watching slickdeals for some dell coupons...and saving my pennies :)

If you aren't sure, just buy the $15 lens. It's only $15. If you don't like it, no big loss, right? But if you do - you scored.

On the other hand, I've gotten pretty picky over the years. I'd buy the Canon. Check B&H when you're ready to buy. They're 100% trustworthy, they're prices are good (that means fair - not the cheapest), and they carry good stuff. They also support this site.

Let us know what you do. If you buy something that's no listed on the site, I can add it. The you can post a review. We need your reviews. Have you posted a review for your A510 yet?

Yeah I guess theres that too. But I am poor, so 15 bucks would be a big loss to me. I always try to buy the best thing I can, cuz I just don't have money to gamble with.
