Which camera to buy?
Hi there,
I am ready to upgrade from my 3 year old Canon SD800 point and shoot. Which of these 2 cameras would you recommend? I like to shoot a variety of stuff from family outings to hiking and landscapes. This will be my first DSLR. The main difference I can see is in the range of the 2 lenses (again, newbie here). So that kind of pushes me towards the Nikon, but I don't know.
I won't be able to afford to upgrade for quite a while, so I want something that is pretty good out of the box. I understand to get to "great" you can't use stock lenses for the most part, and you need to add filters etc etc.
So, what is your preference here?
Oh, I am choosing Best Buy for their 18month 0% interest deal, that is why they are from that site only :)
Thanks!
Oh, if you see another camera in this price range on the website that is even better, by all means recommend it. Thanks again.

Re: Which camera to buy?
Josh,
First thing, both cameras are great indeed but have you held them in your hands yet? That might be the ultimate deal breaker. I was in your shoes last year and went to so many stores looking for the "right" camera. I ended up with the Canon XTi and I love it, it fits my hands great and the stock lens was great to learn from. I have since purchased two lenses, the 50mm 1.8 and the 100-400. But from the jump I think that the stock lens will be a great lens to learn for and still use from time to time.
