    buy used 10d?
a friend is looking to seel his 10 d to upgrade. i currenly shoot with a 35mm rebel 2000 and want to go digital but have been waiting until i had the money for a decent dslr. is i'm an amateur that shoots on vacation traveling and outdoors/ nature mostly. i have a 70-300 mm and a a 28-80 mm lens. is the 10 d worth me buying or is it too old? if so, what price is fair? i don't want to jump on a "good " deal just to be upset about it in a few years because technology has gone so far. thanks dominik

I am about to sell my 10D. Mine is pretty used and I think I'll probably end up selling it for about $400. I think it's a good camera as long as you don't plan to shoot a lot of action or do much precise focusing. My 10D made me a fair amount of money but it was also frustrating for me shooting mountain biking. For close photos and studio work it's been awesome. But for mountain bike landscapes it let me down many, many times. So, depending on what and how you want to shoot it might be a good buy. I am sure it's at least as good as your Rebel 2000. It's built better and I think it has better exposure and AF features. And 6-megapixels is plenty of resolution for most anything. I sold huge tradeshow images shot with my camera. Setup is the key. Resolution usually isn't as important as people would have you believe.

As you can see, I've got tons of experience with the 10D. So let me know if you have more questions.

from what i've read, the 10d is an excellent camera. in terms of other, newer features that the xti has:
    - digic 2 vs digic 1
    - 5 fps vs 3 fps
    - 10 MP vs 6 MP
    - bigger, brighter lcd
    - better AF

    there are probably more

the question is, are these worth moving from 400 to 800$ (and waiting a year or 2)? this 10d purchase was def an opportunity purchase bc i figured i could get a good price on a decent dslr. i'd mostly use it for traveling as well as wildlife and landscape shots. i think i could be satisfied with it because i've never used anything better. hopefully i'll get a chance to play with it more next week.

    thanks again, dominik

    I still use my 10D
I don't have any thoughts of replacing it soon either. I am looking hard at the XTi as a second camera, but the 10D body has been very good to me, and I can't see replacing it yet. I have my eyes on a full frame camera when I can afford it. The D60 is also a very good camera and will also serve you well. If the choices are buying a $400 10D now or waiting 2 years, I wouldn't hesitate to get the 10D now. Don't forget you have to buy some decent glass for that camera, and plan on spending much more on lenses than what you spent on the body. With a body at that price, you can start building a nice lens collection that will transfer to any body you buy in the future.
