    Looking for a new camera

Hi, Im in the market for a new digital camera. I already have a nice SLR, but its a bit too advanced for my level. Im looking into getting a nice digital camera. Im looking for something with above 6 effective megapixels, but a 5 will do. Also a very large lcd screen would be nice. A time laps funtion would be nice but completely optional, and such. I already have a little list going, but most importantly I need something thats DURABLE, very strong and can take a drop or 2. I was looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 or the DMC-FZ7, Nikon Coolpix L5, or even the Kodak Z612. Yes movie functions, and image stability is a must and shutter delay. But overall Price and durabilty is what it comes down to. Any advice?

What is your budget? I am not a fan of the 5 and 6-megapixel sensors. I would recommend a 7-megapixel camera because I think the sensor is much better. I'm not talking about resolution - just image quality. The 7-megapixel cameras generally make much smoother images.

I've never been a big fan of the Nikon compact digital cameras, although the last one I used did have excellent image quality and an innovative user interface and menu. I've used the Panasonic and Kodak super zoom cameras. I like both, but I prefer the Panasonics and think they feel better and have some of the best control layouts. We have pro reviews for the Canon S3 IS and the Panasonic FZ7. I would recommend taking a look at those two reviews:

Have you handled the cameras you're considering yet? That's one thing you should definitely do. Especially if you're concerned about durability. Camera feel and heft are hard to get from photos, specs, and reviews. It's best to experience them in person.

Hope that gives you some more direction. Let us know if you have more questions.

Ok, Now Ive narrowed my sarch down to these 2. The Canon PowerShot S3 IS (or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 depending on price found) and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7. Any Ideas?

HI, regarding the Panasonic FZ7 that I just purchased, so far so good. I still need to experiment with night shots. Took a pic of the xmas tree with no flash and it was a bit dark, and with the flash on it was too much. I was told to play around with the exposure, but to busy working no time to play with my camera.
