3.2 vs. 4 MP
All other things being equal, what difference will the jump to 4 MP from 3.2 MP buy in a camera? To be specific, I am choosing between the Canon A75 and A85 models and trying to decide if the extra $ is worth it.
I have now and plan to continue to use my 35mm Canon as my primary camera, but will be using this camera to do web development, as well as a "pocket camera" for when I don't want to carry around my 35mm.
I have never before owned a digital camera, so this will be my introduction to the field.
thanks,

The difference won't be that great and, most times, not even visible. If your prints are under 8x10 the 3 MP will be excellent.
That being said, the newer cameras sometimes work better. Shutter lag tends to get reduced a bit, little fixes in auto WB and exposure issues, etc. I still might not be worth the extra money but these things should be considered.

There is almsot no difference betweent the two. The difference in ability to crop and enlarge is miniscule.

The difference in prices in these two camers is negligiable when you consider that the A85 has a flip out LCD. I would kill for that on my camera.

Flip-Out LCD
Good point, Almo. The rotating LCD is really a nice feature. Before my Canon G2 kicked the bucket, I'd put it on a tripod with the LCD facing down, hold up the tripod, and shoot crowds for above. It's also good for street photography where you don't want to actually be looking into a camera. You can keep the camera at waist level with the LCD turned up. It's just like old film cameras with ground glass, "waist-level" finders. There's a reason they made those. The rotating LCD is also nice for macro flower pictures and anything else where the camera needs to be really low. With the rotating LCD you can turn it up and you don't have to smash yourself down low in order to see what's in the lens.
