Camera for my nephew, under $100

I'm looking for a 'low end' digital camera, around 3 mega-pixels(ish) for my nephew who's graduating from high school. He currently has a Kodak 3.2 MP camera, which I gave to him, but the shutter lag is so bad, one almost needs to have a book to read while waiting for the shutter to do it's thing. I've checked on Amazon, but just about everything I've looked at under $100 has bad reviews from past users. I'm not expecting top of the line quality here, but I'd like to give him something that's an improvement over what he has.

Have you tried newegg.com? You can check some there and maybe they will have user reviews as well.

Newegg has helped me with a LOT of purchases. They've got some great digital cameras as well.

Honestly, (cuz I looked for a bit as well) your best bet is to hit a Walmart or a BestBuy that has them on display and try yourself because the only Digi cameras that are under 100 bucks are brands like "Oregon" and so forth that maybe be questionable. There is Kodak, but like you said, that's what he has. I was at Walmart the other day and I think there were some decent ones for around that price you ask for.

BUT if you wanna maybe put in an extra few dollars, this camera looks kinda good.

Thanks, I checked out the Canon A410 and that page had about the same amount of bad reviews as the other 'cheaper' cameras had---BUT--the first reviewer suggested the Canon A430, which I ordered from Amazon for $127.49. Yeh-it's over what I had in mind to spend, but I think it's a good upgrade camera for my nephew.

thats what happens when youre looking under $100.... geez, people just want it all. you get what you pay for, the expression really applies. There is lots of great values to be had once you jump that $200 mark but pretty much anything you get under $200 is going to be crap.

yes, stick with the canon a4-- series if youre wanting something cheap. not real great cameras but they do the job.
