    Sony Nex 5N

I got myself a nex5n tried it over the weekend

First some images I've shot with it:

    1. this pipe spends a good part of the year under water, it has some interesting textures
    29.0mm (35mm equivalent: 43mm) Exposure time: 0.0080 s (1/125)
    Aperture: f/8.0 ISO equiv.: 100

    2. bleachers
    48.0mm (35mm equivalent: 72mm) Exposure time: 0.0020 s (1/500)
    Aperture: f/10.0 ISO equiv.: 100

    3. shadow
    18.0mm (35mm equivalent: 27mm) Exposure time: 0.0080 s (1/125)
    Aperture: f/6.3 ISO equiv.: 100

I got myself a tiny camera and still carry the D300 and tripod

    some night shots
    4. iso 800
    31.0mm (35mm equivalent: 46mm) Exposure time: 0.400 s (1/3) ... hand held !
    Aperture: f/4.0 ISO equiv.: 800
    Whitebalance: Auto Metering Mode: matrix

    5- iso 1600
    18.0mm (35mm equivalent: 27mm) Exposure time: 0.067 s (1/15)
    Aperture: f/5.6 ISO equiv.: 1,600
    Whitebalance: Auto Metering Mode: matrix
Converted from RAW, pulled the shadows at the bottom

    6. iso 3200
    31.0mm (35mm equivalent: 46mm) Exposure time: 0.077 s (1/13)
    Aperture: f/4.0 ISO equiv.: 3,200
    Whitebalance: Auto Metering Mode: matrix

I'll post more comments later, overall very satisfied
    Image quality is amazing
Handling is great , look at the handheld shots in low light !
Autofocus is on all the time not only when pressing the shooter

Don't you just love it? next stop a77.lol Make sure you have the latest firmware. It makes manual shooting so much easier and adds focus peaking for non Sony lenses. Also if you use a manual lens you have to set the release lens option. Good luck and happy shooting.

    Thanks Greg

With the IQ this thing produces, and the portability of this, it is hard to think I'll buy another DSLR ...soon.

There a re things I miss from the DSLR,
Really fast autofocus being one, but there are already small cameras with good autofocus speed

Wish it had a hotshoe, but maybe it can be an add-on , so it can control a generic flash, or a wireless remote and then the sky is the limit in regards of external lightning

Wish I had the 16mm pancake lens, then I think it is really pocket size

I'll get an adapter and see what I can do with manual focus

My only issue with no DSLR is focusing in very low light. I was out with the Nex a few weeks ago and was trying a pre dawn focus and the LCD screen wasn't enough. Had I not had the E5 I would have missed the shot I wanted. The EvF and LCD on the a77 is better than the Nex5.

So, then... let me see if I understand you correctly here okay?

Now that I have just also got the Sony NEX-5N, my next stop well be the Sony a77? Okay, I can go for that!

When might you have yours available?

I really enjoy this site, the forums are awesome!

    Thanks for everyone's help,

    Have a nice day...

I doubt I will be getting rid of the a77 anytime soon.

Welcome to PR, Ed........yes, it is a fun site.

I've been around here for years, and in the beginning I learned everything I needed to know about photography. With the encouragement of everyone here I went from a P&S to a Canon dslr. I used Canon up until about 2 years ago, then due to neck/back problems I had to sell my heavier equipment. I invested in the M4/3 system and love my E-P3 along with some of those newer primes - Oly 45mm/f1.8 and Panasonic 25mm/f1.4.

I also enjoy reading about the newer cameras - and the "older" cameras. Greg has some awesome stuff - and his threads are quite informative and fun.

A little off-topic........but just to say we're glad to have you!

    Thanks for joining us.

    Liz
