    New Nikon 1 System J2
Nikon announced the J2 tonight. It's not much of an upgrade but the $550 price tag is more attractive and reasonable than the J1's original $650 MSRP. And I have to say, the Nikon System 1 cameras still have the best auto focus of any compact camera I've ever used.

Does anyone here own one of the Nikon 1 System cameras or are we all Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX shooters?

In my experience, yes. I pushed it really hard and it didn't fail me. However, I don't feel like I had the OM-D long enough to really test the auto focus enough so I am not really sure. I need some more time with the OM-D to test the continuous auto focus some more. I have seen some samples since I returned it to Olympus that make me doubt my initial impressions. Either way, the Nikon 1 AF is excellent.

Not me, at least not until they make one with a screen I can use without putting on my reading glasses. :D

Please Nikon could we have the same sensor and autofocus system with the equivalent of a 28-105 f1.8 - 4.5 stabilised, non-interchangable lens and a zoom ring that works the right way in a package the same size as the Canon S100 (i.e. really pocketable for non-photographer moments).

I mean if Sony can do it (more or less) with the RX100 then Nikon can do it. They already have the sensor. Probably sell much more than the J series - on Amazon's list of top selling digital cameras, the RX100 is number 3, the S100 is number 17, the J1 is - euh - nowhere..

Apologies. This is not the right forum to make this request.

Olympus withdrew the 1.2 firmware update after it bricked a few cameras.
Those who installed it successfully think the continuous AF is slightly improved.
    Could be placebo effect :)

olympus firmware on nikon 1 ? surprised it even worked for anyone :D

kidding aside, this new model looks to me as a strategy to justify lowering the price a bit and hoping it sells more

Yup. That's what I thought - a reminder to people that Nikon has a mirrorless camera system, too :)

    It's a Leica X1 with digiscope adapter fitted on a Leica Apo-Televid spotting scope. i.e. a point-and-shoot. Not a CSC.

Correction, add the word "continuous" in front of auto focus, its single shot AF does not surpass Oly.

Thats what I thought as well, at least its a gesture in the right direction, though I think they could have done more.

    E-m5 af
Yeah, I've seen those samples and they are impressive. Unfortunately, I didn't get to test the E-M5's AF as much as I would have liked to so I can't confirm that AF performance with my own experience. I need to get my hands on the camera again so I can really give the continuous AF a serious test. I *did* push the Nikon J1 hard though and can vouch for its continuous AF capability. At the time, it was, by far, the best continuous AF available in a compact system camera. If it wasn't for Nikon's CX smaller sensor, I would have been all over the Nikon 1 system. The Olympus E-M5 is absolutely my favorite compact system camera so far, but until I can get results similar to the ones in the link you posted, I'm gonna have to remain a bit of a skeptic.

Rumor has it that the new NEXi will have main sensor Phase AF. - TF
