    New guy here
    Hello all,

I am new from Houston. I am very much a beginner and I wanted to learn so I bought an EPL1.
I must say it was very easy to learn on because it had features like "blurred background" I could use before I knew what aperture was lol.
I just got into HDR pictures and have been using my camera more on manual mode and loving it. But I want a new lens. I'm want something close to a 50mm f1.8 for the bokeh style pictures. Any advice on what lens to get would be appreciated. Ill have to do some searching on here as well for sure.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Welcome aboard. I have the 17mm on an Olympus EP-1. It is really a 34mm counting in the x2 crop factor. I also ain't to crazy about the bokeh on it but it makes for a great street lens. It is so fast for a m4/3rd. The 50mm has some great bokeh. Just check the reviews here. Also Liz has had several m4/3rd lenses and has studied up on them as well.
Congrats on the EPL-1. Hope to see you in the critiques forum.

Welcome Josh........and congratulations on your E-PL1. I have the same camera and it's one of my all time favorites.

I have the Zuiko 50mm/f2 lens which is a 4/3 lens. You need a 4/3 to M4/3 adaptor to use it with the E-PL1. If you go this route, the Panasonic adaptor is about $40 less expensive than the Olympus - and it's the same adaptor. The lens is a bit expensive (depending on your budget). It runs about $438 (no tax/free ship) - (plus adaptor which will run you close to $100). This lens is a bit slower on the E-PL1 vs the 4/3 cameras. However, it will work and it is one of the sharpest lenses on the market - and yes it has excellent bokeh (or blurred background).

Here are some links to the lenses (Amazon) so you can view the lens closer, there are some specs - and I also added a link to customer sample images - remember they are "customer" samples and not always the best, but may give you an idea of what the lenses can do.

35mm macro - might be your best bet - small, much less expensiveat $188

There is a less expensive - and quite nice 35mm that gives good bokeh. It's also a 4/3 lens, but it is smaller & lighter. You might want to check that one out. It has great reviews - and the IQ is excellent.

    Panasonic 20mm/f1.7 Pancake lens

The other lens I have is the Panasonic 20mm/f1.7 which has some bokeh, but nothing like the 50mm lens. The Panny runs you about $340.

There are a few customer samples for the 20mm on Amazon, but I didn't add the link because this is a great lens and the "customer" samples are poor (must be beginners!).

    Hope this helps......

    Liz
