    Re: Nex 5 ?????

I handled one a little. The sweep pan actually works very well, and many other functions that having an EVF grants that are not in DSLR. I imagine the sweep pan being a pretty nifty feature for street use. I haven't used it enough to become accustomed to the manual controls, which were all buried in menu. You can tell its menu is very much geared towards automated exposure controls. You couldn't change your metering information nearly as quickly as you could on DSLR, and the focus, naturally, isn't as fast as DSLR either. The only other downside is a limited selection of lens. I wont be getting one until they at least show that they are interested in putting faster lens in the system, as it stands the 16 f/2.8 is the fastest they have, I'd like to see a 35 or 50 f/1.8 or even f/2, maybe pancake style even.

    Re: Nex 5 ?????

What appeals to me is he 1.5 crop factor giving me 24mm. That is a pretty good focal length for street shots. I was leaning torwards a 28mm Voigtlander for my M6 until I saw this and also read that the high iso and IQ was very comparable to an M8 or better.
I think the biggest down side is most people think it is ugly. But so was the M5.LOL
If I am shooting in the streets with my EP-1 I usally hip shoot and aperture priority.
I also am not sure Lightroom supports the RAW files.

    Re: Nex 5 ?????

LR 3.2 and ACR v6.2 (and maybe earlier versions) do support the NEX 3/5 RAW.

Also be aware that a new firmware version came out at Photokina with many improvements in the NEX 3/5.

Thanks Terry. I am very impressed. After reading all I can I am thinking of getting one. The DxO marks are up there with the M9. The only draw back I have been finding is navigating the menu. The NEX 3 would be good enough for me since I really don't care much for video. I just can't figure out why these things aren't selling like hot cakes with the price. Could be they are just TO small.

They are evidently selling quite well here in the US and "like hot cakes" elsewhere. (Sony, overall, is doing very well in Europe and SE Asia.) - Terry

Some numbers from Japan Sept sales:

    http://translate.google.com/translat...015_18375.html

The two NEX models have 13% of the TOTAL ILC market. Not bad considering that Sony, previous to the NEX, only had less than 10% of that market with all of it's DSLRs combined.

Thanks again Terry. This is on my short list of wants.LOL. The only downside I have read about is the navagation of the menus being complex and it ain't easy to shoot in manual. Big plus is my Voigtlander lenses can be used on it.

I want the Nex5 something fierce. If they build the system up and usability is good enough I'd consider selling off my Canon gear.

For me based on DPreview reviews and Steve Huff's review the only thing I don't like is the digital control, you basically have to select your mode on the lcd and the flash you'll be using is by the Sony only.

I think you are missing the point - small and light with APS-C sensor. Where would you put a bunch of buttons and a standard hot shoe on a camera with a body thickness of less than an inch? - Terry

Exactly. As long as the interface WORKS, I couldn't care less what it physically consists of. My primary camera these days is my iPhone 4, with my Panasonic LX3 as a very close second. I think that the interface on the iPhone works much better for me, without a single physical button.

    Review, please!

I have been thinking about buying one just to check it out. I haven't used one yet and I'm very, very curious. I suppose if I wrap up my A55 review I can just ask them for a review unit

The 5 and 3 are almost identical. I just ended up finding the 5 slightly more comfortable to hold. IR sensor and video quality are the only other differences, shooting features, performance and image quality are identical.
