    Recording Pixels

    My Canon PowerShot A540 says it takes pics up to 6.0 mega pixels. But all I can find in the manual are recording pixels listed as:

    Large - 2816 X 2112 pixels
    Middle 1 - 2272 X 1704 pixels
    Middle 2 - 1600 X 1200 pixels
    Small - 640 X 480 pixels
    Postcard Date Imprint Mode 1600 X 1200 pixels
    Widescreen 2816 X 1584 pixels

    How many mega pixels is each of the above?

    Which mode should I be using to take my photos that I will be making mostly 4 X 6 prints and very rarely 8 X 10?

    Should I be using the best mode possible to view my photos on a TV? And to view on bigger TV in the future?

    Thanks.

    Just do the math.

    2816 x 2112 = 5,947,392 or 6 megapixels

    2272 x 1704 = 3,871,488 or about 4 megapixels and so on..

    yes, but I still don't understand which is best for 4x6 prints or 8x10 prints.
    Maybe I'm missing something.

    Re: Recording Pixels

    Prints generally done at 300 dots per inch (DPI) so if you want a 4"x6", multiply each direction by 300.
    4x6= 1200x1800
    8x10= 2400x3000
