Off shoe cord recommendations? So mad at Canon....

I'm so irritated with the Canon OC-E3 off shoe cord. They fall apart or quit working with minimal use. I just threw two in the trash this week! One I bought this summer and have used only a couple of times fell apart. I mean my flash fell off (thankfully my brand new flash didn't break), the casing came apart and all the wires are exposed. It's very easy to see it was never soldered.

I sent a photo of it to Adorama. They don't care. After how many umpteen thousands I've spent there (with no returns) you'd think they would do something. Nope. Just a sorry, you are past 30 days and contact Canon.

Does anyone have any recommendations outside of Canon? My requirements? Reliable and will last through more than one or two uses. (sorry for ranting)

I'm not sure if there is anything I'll be able to do, JETA, but if you can email me directly: Helen@adorama.com with your order number then I can at least give it a try. (Also, please forward me the CS emails you received in connection with this)

I hate hearing this as I just started shooting Canon and like to go off camera with the flash on occasion using a cord.

It's a bummer. If you google it or look at reviews at Adorama it's across the board. Too many people have had their expense gear crash to the ground because of the shoddy workmanship. Mine fell into pieces and so many other people had the EXACT same problem. Their photos look just like mine of the cord.

Thank you for the offer Helen. CS was very polite. My problem is Adorama wasn't willing to send me a new cord. I've bought a lot from Adorama and only buy from them. I've also never returned a thing. My hope was you guys would show a fraction of the loyalty that I showed Adorama. I'm sure the 15K or so I've spent with you guys is small potatoes. If I stay or go makes no difference to Adorama's pocket. I was just hoping for good faith and received none.

Julie, I found some very favorable reviews of this product on a couple UK forums, and thought it might be a worthwhile alternative for you to look into. I did not. I don't have the time or energy to try and get companies to do the right thing. In the end it's only a $70 item. I'm back with B&H now and made a large purchase with them last night. First one in years. They are offering free shipping now, so it's all good.

Re: Off shoe cord recommendations? So mad at Canon....

I would like to update this thread for a few reasons.

First is I had ANOTHER canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord 3 fall apart after a couple location shoots and of course it was while I was having a session. Nothing says professional more then your equipment falling apart in front of 100+ people. UGH! Since I have learned the hard way with this cruddy cord I had bought a back up made by Vello. Vello TTL-Off-Camera Flash Cord for Canon EOS - 1.5' OCS-C1.5

Yesterday I used this cord for a very extensive football portrait session (over 100 player portraits and about 400 images). I can tell you with my RRS L-bracket this cord did not miss a beat! Not one flash was missed. Being the cord is $14.50 versus the Canon being $70.00 it's a no brainer. First time ever I have had to step away from a Canon product. It's kinda painful.

The second part of my original post was my disgust towards Adorama and their unwillingness to replace a cord that fell apart.

Since that time I have gone back to B&H and have placed some big orders including buying the new 70-200mm f/2.8L. In one of my orders I bought a new CF card. I was well past the 30 day return policy. The new card didn't work right when uploading photos. I called B&H and they HAPPILY took the card back and are sending me a brand new replacement.

Not only that I got an email from B&H last night about my rewards card! I had a very nice amount built up and bought 3 more Vellos along with a few other items all FREE!

Bravo B&H! I will never ever go back to Adorama. B&H wants my business!

Helen, I appreciate you and how you are here always fielding questions.

When you asked me if I contacted Canon & said you weren't sure there was anything you could do, it just reiterated to me that Adorama wasn't will do step up and do the right thing.

As a past LOYAL customer who spent a lot of money with you it was shocking to me the CS wasn't willing to replace the cord. Nothing spoke more loudly to say "you don't matter and neither does your business".

I just don't have the time to contact Canon and jump through hoops to get a shoe cord I need in order to work.

If you had said this is silly. Send me the cord and I will send you a new one then everything would have been good in my world. I just like companies to do the right thing, because that's exactly what I do in my business. Whether someone buys a $5 print from me or spends thousands, they are all treated with the BEST cs I can deliver.

Again, I think you are great, but Adorama messed up on this one. People need to know.

You are very welcome. I wish I didn't have to be a squeaky wheel, but in this case it needs to be put out there. I would say the #1 message is how horrible the canon off shoe cord is.

Also I forgot to mention the 2nd one broke in the exact same spot as the first one.

The little Vello I bought has now seen me through close to 600 sport portraits and a few thousand snaps. It's still going strong and I will be using it in another session with two teams tomorrow! That's more shooting then both the Canon off shoe cords combined.

Maybe I need to clarify; my guess is that you spoke to a rep in the call center who gave you a canned response.......... it didn't necessarily mean that was a final answer, or that it was ‘set in stone’ Adorama policy.
I reached out to you on the forum because it IS our policy to review what an individual rep has said if a customer is not happy with the outcome. Unfortunately, they don't get it right, all the time

It’s always helpful to have an opportunity to look into a situation such as this to see if it was caused by an ongoing issue, or a unique unfortunate incident.
I said that I wasn't sure if there would be anything I'd be able to do, (but indicated that I'd like the opportunity to try), because I prefer to under-promise and over-deliver! However, I can appreciate why you could be feeling frustrated and let down.

CS shut me down and there said was no recourse. They refused to look at my purchase history and what a stellar customer I was. That's why I brought it here. I don't have time to contact Canon for the same response. TMI, but I'm working to pay my son's medical bills for late stage cancer. I. NEED. TO. WORK.

I wasn't asking for cash back or even a credit. Just replace the dumb cord.

Just go read the negative reviews at Adorama. There is HUGE issue with this cord!
