Needs repairs
ok, the first thing you need to know is that photo-mom is an idiot :( when it comes to cameras  -- and she is not into spending money - she carried her Canon PowerShot SD950 IS in her purse, no case, and now it won't do anything - a new battery does not help - she of course went running to Tar-zhay (before the weekend - a trip was planned - Memorial Day - the trip on which P-mom wore white bedroom slippers to church because she'd taken two unmatched shoes, with heels, for the same foot! - white!!! before Memorial Day . . . the humiliation!)(P-mom and PJ do not always have a lot, other than DNA, in common) and purchased a Canon for about $125, but wants the old one to work again . . . so there are people online offering to fix Canons - and P-mom is stingy and doesn't know what to do :cryin: - there is more than one . . . and this confuses poor old P-mom . . . so someone on these forums can give advice??? need an estimate to commit to a repair . . . without spending much before i know . . . - b (if this is in the wrong forum just don't tell poor old Mom . . . it would upset her)

Re: Needs repairs
Almost any damage to an SD950 would be a total loss. It could be a number of things. Is there a reason you are blaming the purse for the problem? Those little cameras use tiny itty bitty internal pieces that are very difficult to handle with hands, working on them is a meticulously terrible chore, even if you know them like the back of your hand, the screws, the angles, the ribbons are all very hard to handle. Considering the SD950IS is fetching ~ $150 price used on Ebay, I'd say nix the repair idea.

Re: Needs repairs
i dunno about the purse, but PJ said 'get a case after this' (he did take me to a camera shop where the guy hustled up a battery i could try - saving me the cost of getting one in the mail . . . since i thought it was dead dead dead cuz of some problem w the battery)(the new camera is now in a new case and it's like a girdle . . . getting in and out is a struggle . . . most likely you have never struggled with a girdle . . . oh never mind . . . ) - i think u and PJ agree on having this fixed (not . . . ) - but P-mom very much dislikes getting rid of anything . . . fix it, keep it, never throw it away . . . - thanks - needed the help - b

Re: Needs repairs
It's hard to really say why it broke. But it is a shame. That was a special camera and Canon hasn't made a point-and-shoot that nice since :(

You have my sympathies, but hey...it's only a camera :) at least you didn't drop it over a cliff hiking in the Rockies!!! :mad2: Don't forget, planned obsolescence is the name of the game as far as the manufacturers are concerned, they want you to come back every couple of years and buy a new P&S, besides, it will probably cost you more to fix it than it will to buy a new one - cameras are funny that way...:D
I may be a bit of a cynic, but I would be very suspicious of online offers to fix it unless you have good references for the guy. Online does not mean on time and/or on budget and besides, if you decide to go this way, remember, no one, absolutely no one will know what is wrong until they get it open and figure the "problem" out and anyone who will tell you how much it will cost to fix it is lying to you, I mean, afterall, how would they know what is wrong??? - go ahead, live dangerously, buy a new one...:D :D
Cheers, and happy 4th of July...
