Best Canon DSLR under $1000?

I am looking to purchase my first DSLR, and there is so much out there to choose from! What would be the best Canon under $1000? Right now I have mostly been shooting animals, nature & wildlife, and some people and landscapes. I would love to invest in a really good camera ($1500 - $2000 range), but I don't want to get too much too fast, either, and I want to save for a lense or two. Thank you!!

I'm happy with my Rebel XTi.

The 30D and 20D are also popular, and the anticipated 40D looks promising, but to be honest, I'd go with the XTi and use the rest of your budget on lenses and other add-ons.

Well, considering that there are only 2 in that price range, and one is clearly superior than the other, your only choice is the XTi.

Check out KEH.com for used gear. The majority of your budget should be going to lenses, bodies come and go and glass is the only thing that sticks around long-term.

30d on sale, just about $999 right now. although if you're serious about spending up to 2k for your kit, I'd say that the $1299 40d looks to be a superior camera, and worth the $300 upgrade. that would still allow you $700 for lenses. however, if your budget is closer to $1500, then definitely go 30d or even XTi and spend the extra cash on glass. good glass is FAR superior to a good camera body.

id go to the 40D and get for it some good glass .... otherwise id choose the 30D and save me some money for some L lenses :thumbsup:
