Canon 450D and Canon lens from film camera??

Hello everyone! I'm quite new to photography and to this forum.

I own Canon EOS300 film camera and would like to buy Canon 450D and some lenses and other equipment. Unfortunately my budget does not allow me to do it all at once.

We will be going on a little holiday soon and I'm a little tired by now of not being able to see the shot I took and paying so much for the development of the standard film, which is so expensive. So I was thinking of bying only the camera first (Canon 450D).

My question is however.... will the Canon EF 28-90mm lens fit, which I used on my film Canon EOS300, fit the Canon 450D???
Your help will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

The 450D is a great choice. For the price, it offers many of the features on the more expensive. As a pro, I use the 450D alongside my 40D. I don't know if your 28-90mm will fit. However, when choosing lenses, you must consider what you are going to shoot & what your budget is.

Hi Richard! Thanks for your post.
I will be able to afford some new lenses and other goodies (tripod, extention tubes and filters) in a few months. I would like to take landscape, nature and portrait photography, but I'm also keen on trying the macro (hence the extention tubes). I have in mind buying a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens and Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.
However if I could fit my old lens on the 450D, then I would like to buy the camera now, before we go on holiday, so that I can already start using the digital instead of a film camera and have no more worries with spending so much money on the film developing and having all the photos printed. It's too costly. I'd rather put the money towards the new lenses.

One other suggestion. If you have $100, it would be well worth your while to get the Canon 50mm/f1.8 lens which is a nice, sharp lens good in low light, for portraits, street photography, and many other things.

You could also consider getting a used Canon 450 which would allow you to get more lenses. There is usually a 14 day return policy and 90 day warranty on used. Check the links below for more info on the lens and used cameras. Both are reputable dealers.

The 450 is a great choice btw!

Here is a used 450D with the 18-55IS lens for $469 (no tax unless you live in NY) - this lens is also very good. B&H is a reputable dealer. I would call to order if vs ordering online to be sure it's still available. They do get these in frequently since the 550D has come out. It says to email for condition which usually means it's in like-new or refurbished - which is like new.

    50mm/f1.8 lens $99.95

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...0mm_f_1_8.html

450D Body only.....$429 at KEH.com - - very reputable - largest used equipment dealer in US - it's rated EX+ - click on link to see description of EX+ (basically excellent)

I think you're better off getting the body/lens combo as the 18-55IS lens is about $170+

Good luck and let us know what you do.

BTW, the EOS lenses will fit the 450D. However, you will find the quality of your 28-90 EOS lens can't compare with the the 50mm and 18-55IS - there is no comparison.

Yes. All EF lenses will fit on the 450D. Since the sensor on the 450D is smaller than 35mm film, the field of view you see though the 28-90mm lens on the 450D will be a little different than what you will saw using the 35mm camera. Basically your old lens will act more like a 45-144mm lens.

Thank you everyone for your advise! I will buy the camera and slowly start saving up for lenses. It can be quite tricky though. There are many nice lenses to choose from but budget is always a problem...

Good news I see your old lens will fit on the 450D which you can now go & buy in time for your holidays! However, the 28-90 means you can now buy a wider lens than the 17-55you had been considering. Now you can go for something like a 10-24 for a real landscape experience!! A prime lens is always a good addition. From recent personal experience, I would recommend the relatively new Tamron 60mm f/2. It is absolutely superb for macro, portrait & certain landscapes.Colour is great & sharpness as you would expect from a prime lens. I bought a new one from eBay for £300.
My work is very general from food shots to sports action, especially golf so my long lens is the mighty Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS. Probably their best lens & even outperforms the
f/2.8 version which is twice the weight, especially on the little 450D. And much more expensive too. With this lens I also use the Canon 1.4x teleconverter. Regardless of what you may read about exenders, the 1.4x produces outstanding shots at 280mm. It has to be used on a top class lens by someone who knows what they're doing.
Yes, this combination doesn't come cheap - around £1000 - but I would say it's worth saving up for.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes, Richard

L-age, one thing to think about. If you buy EF-S lenses, they will only work on APS-C size sensor cameras like the 450D and others. If you will ever want to go full-frame then they will not work properly, if at all om FF cameras. My advice to you would be to buy standard EF lenses, granted they may be a bit more expensive, but if you ever decide to go full-frame, then you will not have to reinvest in a whole new series of lenses. My 0.02¢ for what its worth.

Re: Canon 450D and Canon lens from film camera??

    Just an update....

Before holiday I bought the 450D with the kit lens 18-55mm.
Now back from holiday, I took lots of photos and had great fun with the camera.
    Absolutely love it!

I have now decided that for the time being i will use this kit lens and my old lens, also for financial reasons but mainly for the need of getting to know my equipment which i find more important right now. Learn to work with what i have and when i have the feeling i'm good at it and have the need to get another lens, i will do so.
However i decided to get the tripod, polarizing filter, extention tubes and a cable release.
This all should keep me busy for quite some time .

Thank you all for your advise, i will keep it all in mind.

Hey! I'm getting my 450D this weekend, and have been looking at things to get for it too. Especially UV CPL filters. The UV mostly for protection.

I've also been looking at the Delkin Snug It Skin. I found one on ebay for $30, but I'm not sure how effective it will be.
