    Re: 1D Mark IV ~ It's coming!

No problem. Are you going to get the 1D Mark IV? I am anxious to try it out, although I don't plan to buy one. While I do love the 1D series, they're just too big and expensive to be practical for me. Mostly, I'm curious to see how the image quality compares to the 7D and the Nikon D3S, and I also want to compare the AF between the new 1D and the Nikon D3S.

In case you haven't seen the 1D Mark IV content that we've done:

I've been anticipating it's release for sometime now.... Not sure if I'll pull the trigger until I hear about it out in the field & financial issues. I definitely need another body, but 5k? I need a lot more work! lol

I'm so very anxious to see the high iso shots and compare them to the Mark III & D3S.

When do you think you'll get to test drive one PJ?

    Thank you for the links!

Just adding that I'm bit bummed by the sensor size of the Mark IV. I was hoping they'd go ff.

Peter Miller a shooter for SPORTS ILLUSTARTED had a quick review of it he claims the 3200 ISO shots look like the 1600 ISO shots of his MARK III!

Pretty crazy considering its 60% larger files?

    Re: 1D Mark IV ~ It's coming!

I'm assuming Canon will be announcing a 1Ds MKIV FF camera with a price tag to match. Based on the AF of the 7D, I would think that the MKIV would be awesome. I'm so happy with my 7D that I'm debating selling my MKIII. The weather sealing is what's keeping me from selling it as we're in the heart of the rainy season now and I hate using waterproof covers. The MKIII can handle more rain than I'm willing to shoot in so it's great for me.

Why? There's always been a clear differentiation between the 1D and the 1Ds bodies. What woulld you consider to be the benefit of a full frame sensor for this camera?

My reasoning is it would be more versatile. I'd get more oomph out of my wide angle lenses, especially my fisheye. If I was to even consider buying the IV I'd keep my III. It would be more fun if one was ff. I'm probably ridiculous for my reasoning.

I'd probably miss the crop factor on the field though.

    Re: 1D Mark IV ~ It's coming!

That's the whole point of the 1DmkIVS which we haven't seen yet.
My 1DmkIIN has the smaller sensor and faster burst mode and the 1.3x crop factor, my 1DSmkII has the larger sensor, slower burst mode, but higher pixel count - two different cameras for different jobs.
By making only one or the other I have less versatility.
I use the 1DSmkII with the 24-70 for walkabout in the pits/paddock, and the 1DmkIIN with the 70-200 in the garages, or the 300mm for the track. I may swap to 70-200 on the 1DSmkII if I am not close enough to the action to use the 24-70. But the extra reach with the crop factor and the speed makes the 1DmkIIN better when things go wrong and I want to catch an accident happening - they rarely happen in front of me. I also value the crop factor for wildlife.
I'm not sure how Canon could give us versatility in one body without a strange crop mode while shooting, but that won't speed up the shutter recocking which is noticeable slower (and noisier) on the 1DmkIIS.

    Re: 1D Mark IV ~ It's coming!

I understand the differences, but I was hopeful that Canon would try and get a bit closer to the D3S. It's ff and has 9 fps if I read the data properly.

You got it right. And it can do 11 FPS in the DX crop mode.

I think Canon has established the 1D Mkx line pretty solidly and doesn't need to diverge much from the formula. As Paul said, you can look for something different in the expected 1Ds Mk IV. There have been rumors of a 1D with resolution/crop options. They could be simply that - rumors. But there could be something to them. I think it would be more likely for Canon to offer that kind of flexibility in the higher resolution, more expensive model than the pure action camera. And as I've been saying for a few years now - personally, I don't really care about full frame.
