The Juicy 5D mkII Media Thread
Now that there are a few of us with 5D mkII's, I thought it would be fun to have an ongoing thread for pictures and videos taken with this great body.

    One rule:
    1) 5D mkII media only

I got home from work and decided to take the first "real" pictures with the camera since I bought it.

I put a 25mm extension tube under the 50mm f/1.4 lens and took some shots of some flies my grandfather tied up and gave to me. I think I might print these out and frame them as a Christmas gift.

Nice shooting, Jim - especially with a 50mm + extension tube rig.

Are these crops? They are well magnified if uncropped on a FF sensor - I think those hooks are #10 or #8 at most.

I take it that you like your new 5DmkII? What about it do you appreciate the most compared to the 5D classic?

Re: The Juicy 5D mkII Media Thread
Yes, these are crops, but not super bad (see uncropped image below). I love that with the extra MP on the mkII I'm not throwing away so much data on a cropped image. I let my buddy borrow my 100mm macro lens, I plan to reshoot some similar setups when I get it back. I can't wait to have these fill the entire frame.

This is really the first set of pictures that I've taken with the mkII, and so far, it's been great. I haven't played a lot with the video yet. I'm loving the low light performance with the mkII as well.

It's time for you to get some pictures posted up here :)

    Cool.

I sold my 5D classic earlier in the year (might have been end of last year - I forget) in anticipation of getting the "II" but it didn't happen right away. In the meantime, I was stuck with just the 50D and I must say I missed the FF format.

I've been mostly shooting "junk" with the mkII to make sure everything is performing properly so I don't have too much to show for it yet. Perhaps this weekend I'll get some stuff worthy.

I really like the dust shaker - my 5D classic had flypaper for the sensor.

Some of my daughter's gecko last night. This image with the 100mm f/2.8L IS macro at f/2.8:

Same setup, but a bit closer and at f/8:

Don't have anything yet that highlights the low-light capabilities of this camera.

Yes a little crop (somewhere between your previous example and uncropped if that makes sense).

Makes perfect sense since you were shooting the 100mm and I was with a 50mm.

Now I need to go get more shots just to keep up!

This isn't a real tough ISO test, but the single doe portrait (24% crop, 1/320, F4.5, 270mm) was at 800 ISO and the scene with the buck (41% crop, 1/800, f8, 280mm) was at 1000 ISO. No noise reduction has been applied to either. Both taken with 70-200 2.8 L + 1.4X TC. My 7D would have shown a lot more noise at identical settings, especially at 1000 ISO.

I thought I posted these earlier (I still may have). Shot a couple days after receiving the 5D for an initial high ISO test at a family get-together at my cousin's place.

Both of these at ISO 3200 - no noise reduction whatsoever (neither in-camera nor in post-processing).

Shot this from the backyard to confirm just how poor of a performer the 16-35mm f/2.8L mkII is. 16mm + FF body = crappy corners (this shot was stopped down to f/5.6 and is uncropped).

Sold that lens and bought the 100mm L.

OK, the low-light capability is really nice. Shot this last night backstage before an orchestra concert. Crappy ambient florescent lighting back there and really dark - this image was overexposed to look "normal". Shot with the 50mm f/1.8 at f/2.8, 1/45s, and ISO 3200.

My baby girl turned 13 over the weekend. She talked us into a party at the house based on a 3:1 invitation-to-RSVP ratio. It turned out to be more like 10:7 and 34 kids showed up.

This camera can see in the dark. This image was lit only by 7 black lights (5 tubes and 2 bulbs) and a disco ball. Can't get too much darker than that and still be able to see through the viewfinder and focus.
