I want to sue canon...can anyone help??

    :mad2:
I want to sue canon...can anyone help me??

After getting frustated with canon India, I send the camera to USA throwing in $10 more for courier.

They took 2 weeks and returned the camera unrepaired saying its an uneconomical damage due to water. This was really crazy because i know not a single drop of water was near the camera and i know i am not lying.

Moreover if this was the issue Canon India would have noticed this straightaway, which they never did.

This clearly shows that Canon is simply lying and running away from its responsibility to serve its users and warrenty. Now i am feeling like a idiot cheated away by a big brand just because i trusted them.

I have all the papers with me to support my case, and am ready to go to any extent to fight my cause.

Can anyone tell me whom to approach in Canon or Consumer Court or whatever????

On bringing the camera to India, the camera stops booting..."Death on Arrival", I had to gift it so i showed it to Canon Delhi they charged me Rs. 900 ~ $23 and said the PCB was repaired. (Warrenty valid only in US and Canada)

Now the camera again had the same problem and they say the PCB will be replaced...and i will be charged Rs. 4100~ $105.... this is crap!!!...isn'nt this

Now for the camera worth $200 i am being asked $100...just after 50 odd days of buying it. Can somebody help???

Is anyone aware if Canon US warranty remains valid ??? so I should take it to US

    Thanks

Sorry to hear about your problems that you are having. Did you try to call Canon's customer service and tell them what is happening?
I don't want to sound rude but if you purchased this camera in the States, did you try it out before you left back to India?

The camera doesn't have to be near water. It could be on moving from a very cold outside to a warm room inside that causes condensation of water from the air on every part of the camera - inside and outside.
A simple way of protecting against that is to put the camera into a ziplock plastic bag outside, full of dry but cold air. Then let it warm up inside before you take it out of the bag end expose it to the moist, warm air.

Having bought it in the USA, the warranty is for the USA.
If you had bought it in India, the warranty would apply in India.

I agree, for a camera worth $200 a cost of $100 makes repair unceonomic.

The Canon UK warranty does not apply "f) because of faults caused by shock or fall, sand, dust, dirt, damp or corrosion, leaky batteries, repair or cleaning by unauthorised personnel; "
I can't find the warranty agreement for Canon India or Canon Asia online, but I guess it includes something similar.

Thats not a good idea, Canon does track where each serial # goes so they know which go to the US and which goes to India etc. That and some models have different names in different countries, or are not available in different countries. That, and your idea is just plain dishonest.

you cant sew a comany because your camera stopped working because of water damage.
and like mentioned above you dont have to expose the object to water to be damage a change in temperatures would do it. i had a cell phone i sent back to get fixed and they said it was water damaged but i knew it wasnt from dropping it in a pond it had to of been from coming inside from the cold.

there is a watermark inside the camera, that if it is exposed to water it will change color or disappear. This is how companies know if it's water damaged. If they saw this sign, they immediately won't repair it because its outside of the warranty terms and conditions. They're not trying to mean, just doing what they are trained to do.

Good one, JS. It's things like this, along with shoplifting, that help drive the prices up at the stores.

Re: I want to sue canon...can anyone help??

    Thanks for all the replies

well i never took it in water or rainy conditions...moreover if it was water damaged, the Canon India should have seen it, but they never told me anything....i have the papers by them..they say "PCB Faulty/Needs to be replaced".

Now if a Canon service center from india does'nt catches water and Canon service center in US catches water ...does'nt that sounds fishy and lying??

This was the point i want to argue against .... ready to argue even legally

    Any issues ??

If it is condensation that caused the problem it may not have gotten on the sensor, one drop of condensation in the right place could short a circuit and the first shop may have missed it. I don't see you having much of a case, especially over a $200 camera, it would cost you more than the camera is worth to pursue legal action as well when you consider court costs which you pay up front, mileage and your time. In the long run it would be cheaper to buy another $200 camera.

I agree with the condensation theory. I think you should move on and just go with another brand if you no longer trust or feel comfortable with Canon.

exactly what I was going to suggest after reading your last post. I've had a camera arrive to me faulty while it left the shipper in working condition. I believe condensation was the culprit. It's a possibility.
