How can you manage SD cards with a Powershot SD1100?

    Hello there!

I've got a Canon Powershot SD100 IS and I was wondering if anybody knew how to manage the SD card on it.

I went to My Computer and clicked on the camera with the SD loaded, and while I could browse the photos on it, I couldn't change anything or organize them into folders.

Do I need an SD card reader to do this, or is there software available to let me manage it? I'd prefer the latter, since that will cost less money.

Why would you want to arrange them on the card in your camera? Pull them off and arrange them on your PC and use the card to take more photos. Your camera is going to place the images in a default folder on the card anyway.

If all you want to do is arrange them into folders so you can show people your images -- there are more efficient ways to create slide shows. A bunch of the photographers at work are using their iPhones to display images, I use my iPAQ to show a little portfolio of images.

Yeah, the last thing you want to do is keep your photos on the card in the camera. If the card happens to fail or the file system gets corrupted you run the risk of losing everything. You also run the risk of accidentally formatting your card or your camera gets lost or stolen. Take your photos, move them to your PC and organize them there. Put the card back in your camera and format it so its ready to go.

If I'm out and about and I take just one picture I download it immediately I get back. I hate leaving images in camera for any length of time.

I should have mentioned - this isn't really for photography, per se, but rather so I can install some firmware on my Nintendo Wii, which only accepts SD cards.

Being able to manage files on the SD card via the connection to the camera would save me the cost of a card reader.
