    upgrade from eos400d?

i have a eos 400d what would be the logical next step up in camera body for use with portrait and live music photography?

would it be worth getting a eos450 ,or 40d or pay the extra and get the 50d? how much more would the 450 give me over the 400d and same with the 40 and 50d?

the main lens i use is the 17-55 is usm f2.8 lens and 55-250 is f4.5 lens and i just added the 430ex m2 to my bag as well

    thanks in advance

    Re: upgrade from eos400d?

What are you trying to accomplish that the 400D won't do for you? In terms of an "upgrade," the 450D offers very little difference, and in terms of substantive image quality it's entirely negligible. The 50D only really offers a faster continuous shutter speed and larger image files. Given the two uses you listed, I can't imagine you'd need the higher continuous speed, and the only way you'd need the higher file size is if you're printing HUGE photos - greater than 24x36".

So the 450D nor the 50D is really going to do much for you, based on your initial post. Considering the $700+ you'd be spending for almost no improvement, I'd suggest spending that money on improving the quality of your lenses. For example, you could sell the 55-250 IS and using that money and what you would've spent on a body, replace it with the much better 70-200 F/4 IS. Or perhaps even a 70-200 F/2.8, which would be wonderful for portraits.

I think the 40D & 50D would give you better high ISO images along with more frames per second. One thing I do notice when I switch between the 400D & 30D is shutter lag, not a big deal but it is noticable. Personally I would get better glass first and change bodies when the gap between what you have and what's available is greater.
