Canon 30D and 400D

helo everybody,please i have question,canon 30D lens is compatible with canon 400d?

Welcome to the Forum. Yes. Any lens that will work on the EOS 30D will also work on the EOS 400D.

because i wanna use the 30D just for action sports (5fps) and i hear that the shuter lifetime is to short i use the 400d for shot everyting,my bike ride,ladscape,wildlife,pets etc..

I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with just one of those bodies. Or, you can save your monies for a 1-D Mark III.

I would agree! I think you would be much better off with one or the other, and use the rest of the $ for some fast glass. Either that, or get something from the 1D family.

thanks all guys,but the canon 1-D mark III is to expense for me,maybe i get just 30D and save some $$ to buy 5D.

The point that AlaS and I are trying to make is that we don't think you need 2 bodies. I think you could get one body to meet all of your needs. I you need the 5fps of the 30D for sports and action shooting that's fine, but there is no reason that you can't shoot all the other things you mentioned with that body also. The 30D's shutter is rated at 100,000 cycles which should last most shooters for many many years.

I think you would be much better off with a single body, and putting the $ you would have spent on a second body into some good glass.

buy a 1d mark II or mark IIN. they are lightyears ahead of the 30d or xti. markII will run you 2k, IIN as low as 2500.

I put about 60k on my camera in a year, just FYI. the 1d's shutters are rated much higher than any consumer/prosumer shutter. the original 1d is at 150,000, and i believe they bump it up to 200,000 for the II's.

that being said, they are big cameras. If you dont like carrying heavy things around, you won't like them. but I'm also not too sure why you want to buy two cameras. the 30d can do all of the things you want the xti for. I have only begun shooting with two bodies after three years of sports shooting, and only because I can have two different lenses to guarantee I get the shot. If you're not shooting pro there really isn't a need for more than 1 body.

I have to agree with Brent, there is really no need for two bodies. If you use it enough to wear one out, then you can upgrade to another body. I don't believe you are going to shoot even 100,000 photos in the next 3 years as an amateur. In 4 years I have shot about 30,000 photos on mine. In the 70s when I was shooting as a pro, I had two Canon F1s. that gave me several options:

1. different film in each camera
2. different lenses on each camera with same film. I used that setup for shooting Basketball games, etc.
3. As insurance, break one and you have another. I screwed up a wedding shooting with only one body and never again. It was also a new body and I hadn't used it before the shoot. :mad2:
Now I have only my 300D digital and don't intend to replace it within the next 3 years or so. It is perfectly satisfactory for my uses. I also have film cameras, F1 especially, and intend to use them to shoot B&W. I have a darkroom almost setup.

Maybe nothing. It could last for another 200,000 cycles or it could go bad after the first 200. If the shutter does where out, it can be replaced.

How do I know if my shutter goes out? Does it just stop working or does it slowly perform worse?

I have a reblt xti, 10d, 20d and a 30d. I easily have hit the limits on my 10 and 20. My 1, the autofocus has died and my 20 my auto exposure has died.

What are the limits for each of these camera?

yes it will stop working. The limits are that the AF system on the xti is not as good as the 30d, which is not nearly as good as the 1d line. Image quality also, though not as different as the AF speed. the 1d line is weather sealed, where the others are not. the 1d and 30d have solid construction, while the xti is a bit weaker construction. Those are some of your limits.
