    10-18mm IS STM lens

Anyone had a play with one of these or know where there is a pro review? (I know they aren't available yet) I have one on order and I can't wait to get it. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it will be ready in time for Vivid as I just received an invite for the canon guided photo walk and would love to try it out there.

    oh well...

This will be the first new lens I have bought in years, and I have been missing going really wide since I switched to digital. I'm not sure what I will do with 4 stops of is - maybe try and handhold a star trail!

    Re: 10-18mm IS STM lens

So it arrived late last week. Slightly too late for it to go to vivid. I have only had a very brief go of it so far, but it is better than I had thought it would be.

Obviously it isn't as sharp as some of its more expensive counterparts and it does bend a bit at the 10mm end but that was to be expected. It certainly fills a hole in my kit so for that it is fantastic!

I'd be interested to know about it, I've just ordered a 70d for video, it could be a good lens for wide angle steady cam?

i would put it in your kit for the stm motor.. it might bend a bit too much for video depending on what you are shooting. It is very wide!

Yes I'm looking at the 40mm stm, I have a 17/40 so will stick with that for now and can't wait to get out testing later this week. Batteries the same as the 5D are helpful too!

I got it mainly for weddings, as a second cam and for use on the steadycam but it may become 1st cam

    Re: 10-18mm IS STM lens

As far as I am aware the benefit of the stm lenses will only apply to the 70d and they wouldn't fit on the 5d anyway as they are ef-s mount.

I had a play with it last week. colour is a little flatter than I would like but it certainly has the width and doesn't bend nearly as badly as I first though - oh and it is sooo light it is almost like I don't have a lens on the body!

not entirely sure if the 70d makes full use of the stm motor but this is only going to show its head if you are using AF for your video and you have a mic that will be mounted close enough to pic up the focusing motor (its super super quiet)
